As we enter Black History Month, I would like for us all to think about how far we have come, but how much further we have to go.

There is still so much that needs to be done to ensure that we are combating injustices as they pertain to African Americans, such as race discrimination and retaliation in the work place, unfair sentencing in the criminal justice system, sub-par education and unsafe schools for our children, and racial profiling.

This is the first in a series of pieces I am posting this month that will bring attention to social justice issues the Black Community needs to rally around. The first piece in this series focuses on several issues afflicting our community, from domestic violence to mandatory minimums.
