Poet Kavon Ward’s Youthful Summer

Things are heating up outside and so is my work with poets in the making!  This summer, I am doing substantial work with youth, working with young people on poetry, leadership, public speaking, and other critical skills.
Tonight, I am joining former NBA player, author, and poet Etan Thomas to engage with the MERGE Youth Ministry at First Baptist of Glenarden at 8:00 p.m.  We will connect with youth through poetry and address real issues.
I am also implementing my Use Your Words curriculum in various capacities this summer.  Use Your Words focuses on creative expression, vocabulary expansion, and presentation skills.  On July 17th, I will preview Use Your Words and perform I Am Trayvon Martin for Howard University students.  On July 28th, I am taking Use Your Words to the DC Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services.
These events follow work I have done this summer with the Humanities Council of Washington, DC to provide Use Your Words as part of their youth leadership programming, Soul of the City.  I also taught this curriculum to DC Scores students as part of their efforts to emphasize self-expression and community.
I encourage you to have a youthful summer as well, so consider sharing your talents with a young person.  If there are other youth outlets in which you think I would be a good fit, please let me know.
