Poetic Activist Kavon Ward on the Move

Greetings All:

As we wrap up a busy summer and approach a new school year, we are reminded that there is little time for sleep! I know you all have not heard from me in awhile, and that’s because I’ve been keeping busy with implementing my Use Your Words curriculum, performances, rallies, and rehearsals.

Poetic Activism:
As you all may know, on July 20th, I participated with the People’s Coalition of Prince George’s County in a national march and rally for justice pertaining to the George Zimmerman verdict. Our agenda also included marching and rallying in an effort to correct local injustices as it relates to Archie Elliott III and DC Metro Workers.  We even made the papers! Please join me and the People’s Coalition of Prince Georges County as we commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington. We will meet at Farragut Square (17th & I St. NW — near Farragut West and Farragut North Metro stops) at 9 am on Saturday, August 24th, to rally and march against racial profiling, obtain more signatures for the  Archie Elliott petition, and to support our brothers and sisters at Metro in their fight for better wages and job security. We will gather and march as a group from Farragut Square down to the Lincoln Memorial where we will join tens of thousands across the country in celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington!
Also, please join me on August 24th, at the DC Statehood rally as I perform my piece “New Columbia State of Mind.”  The March on Washington, DC Statehood rally will take place at 8 am at the DC War Memorial near 17th St. and Independence Ave. SW
Further, on August 24th, 5pm, I will be performing in a staged reading of “The Engagement: A Snatch of Life In Three Acts” — a play about the strife and daily walk of a same sex marriage couple, fighting for equality as they take things in their relationship to the next level, marriage. I will be playing Chavon the best friend of the bride to be.  Please register here if you are interested in attending the reading.
And on Sunday, August, 25th we will be wrapping up shooting for the short film “Dat Wolf!” Stay tuned for more information about its admission in film festivals.
Until we meet again, be blessed!
