Good Day All,
As we settle into our transition from summer to fall, I urge you to think about the quote “A man who stands for nothing will fall for anything.” This essentially means that it is imperative that we give much thought to what exactly it is we believe in! If not, we are easily influenced and risk conforming to the beliefs of others, even though we may not agree with those beliefs whole heartedly.
That said, I’d like to share with you all some of my plans for the fall!
As you all may know, I’m a proponent for equal rights for all, this includes same sex marriage! Join me this Saturday, September 21st in the Grand Ballroom North of the Renaissance Hotel in Downtown Washington, DC, as I make my acting debut in my first stage play, The Engagement: A Snatch of Life in Three Acts. This special event is apart of the 4th Annual Out On The Hill LGBT Leadership Summit in conjunction with the 43rd Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) Annual Legislative Conference. Further, on Friday, October 4th, I’ll be working with former Wizard’s player Etan Thomas again! I’ll serve as a featured poet during his “Daddy’s Girl: Celebrity Fatherhood Panel Discussion.” The panel will focus on coping with the pain of not having a father and how it manifests in girls and women and single motherhood. Panelists include Jackie Griffin, mother of RGIII, Dr. Lonise Bias, mother of the late Len Bias, Free from 106 and Park, and Ilyasah Shabazz, daughter of the late Malcolm X. Finally, I’m going on tour! I’ll serve as a judge and the featured poet in Poet’s World Inc’s five city poetry slam tour! The Poet’s World Grand Slam Tour is a competition event covering five territories. In each territory there will be a two day audition period. The poets will audition to be chosen to be one of the 30 poets to compete in the local Slam so that they may earn a spot in the grand Slam competition. Four finalists will be chosen from each territory to move on to the Grand Slam competition in DC. Each local competition will include four rounds of poetry where they will be judged on originality, deliverance, stage presence and lyrical creativity. The grand prize winner will receive the Golden Mic Trophy, $25,000 and all bragging rights. For show dates and audition dates click here.
Hope to see you around this fall!
Peace and Blessings,
